We leave Sigtuna after lunch on August 7. After a visit to the Worker’s Museum in Norrköping we head for the woods and lakes in the southeastern part of Sweden called Småland, well known for its history of glass making and art-glass. We will stay at the Kosta Boda Art Hotel, with an indoor as well as an outdoor pool. Saturday morning we continue to Målerås glass factory to see glassblowing and a memorable art-glass exhibition. We continue to the medieval town of Kalmar. In Kalmar we are staying at the comfortable Frimurar Hotel for two nights. We will get a guided tour of the 13th century castle. Dinner will be served in the cellar vaults of restaurant Kronan.
The next day we leave Kalmar for a visit to the island of Öland. We drive over the longest bridge in Sweden and pay a visit to the summer residence of the Royal family where we get a guided tour through the well-kept garden. After this we visit a modern art and glass museum/exhibition, the VIDA Museum. We will have lunch at a well-reputed local country inn, Hallorps Gästgiveri. Before returning to Kalmar we head towards the southern tip of the island. This part of the island is on UNESCO`s World Heritage list for its unique agricultural landscape. Perhaps we climb the Lighthouse or watch birds at the nature reserve. We will be back in Kalmar in time for dinner at the hotel.
The last day of our tour we are travelling the coast road northbound to reach the little town of Söderköping and Göta Kanal. Göta Kanal is a unique waterway that connects the Baltic Sea with the Swedish west coast. We will take a three-hour cruise on the canal and go through a couple of locks. A nice summer lunch will be served on the boat.
